I Love You Both — Book Description

What happens when a child feels caught between two people they love?

Benny Bunny has two homes—and he loves both of his parents. But sometimes Benny begins to feel as though loving Mommy might hurt Daddy, or being happy with Daddy might mean being disloyal to Mommy. He learns to hide his feelings, keep happy memories to himself, and carefully decide which parts of his heart are safe to share.

Soon, Benny is carrying feelings that were never meant for a little bunny to carry: guilt, confusion, worry, sadness, and the feeling that he has to choose.

With the help of a caring counselor, Mrs. Owl, Benny begins to understand an important truth: children do not have to choose who they love. His heart is big enough for Mommy, Daddy, stepparents, grandparents, friends, and everyone else who matters to him.

Along the way, Benny also learns simple coping skills to help him manage big emotions and discovers that grown-ups' feelings and conflicts are not his burden to carry.

Written by Kristi Godwin, LMFT, I Love You Both is a gentle, therapeutic story for children navigating divorce, separation, blended families, high-conflict co-parenting, or loyalty conflicts between caregivers. It can be read independently or shared by parents, grandparents, teachers, counselors, and therapists to help children talk about feelings that can otherwise be difficult to put into words.

A child should never have to stop loving one person in order to love another. There is room in a child's heart for them both.
