Sometimes Dora Duck feels far away... even when she hasn't gone anywhere.
The world may suddenly seem fuzzy or unreal. Voices can sound far away. Her body might feel strange, and sometimes Dora even loses track of what happened.
At first, Dora doesn't understand the Faraway Feeling.
Then she meets Mrs. Owl, a caring counselor who helps Dora discover something important:
Her brain isn't trying to hurt her.
It's trying to protect her.
With Mrs. Owl's help, Dora learns how to notice when the Faraway Feeling is beginning, use her senses to reconnect with the present, feel her feet on the ground, and reach out to safe people when she needs support. And when the Faraway Feeling returns, Dora discovers that it doesn't mean she has failed.
She can find her way back.
A gentle, beautifully illustrated story for children who sometimes feel disconnected, unreal, fuzzy, numb, “spaced out,” or far away from themselves or the world around them.
